For Half-Day and Full-Day Kayak Trips — park at Sunny Acres Fishing Docks, 1545 Sunny Acres Rd, Pacolet, SC 29372. Your car stays here for the duration of your trip. Do not go to 250 Phifer Line for these activities.

Your booking confirmation will always confirm the correct address for your specific activity.

  • It depends on what you have booked — here's the breakdown:

Lazy River Tubing, Hourly Kayaking, Riverside Lounges & Events:
Head to our main property at 250 Phifer Line, Spartanburg, SC 29307. Check in at the River Readiness Center at the top of the hill and our team will get you sorted from there.

    Adventure Tubing:
Also check in at 250 Phifer Line, Spartanburg, SC 29307. From there you will take a short van ride to the put-in at Clifton Converse Pump Station, 585 River St, Converse, SC 29329.

Lazy River Tubing — You start and end right at 250 Phifer Line. When you reach the end of the float you'll pull up to the Buoy Bar and wait for the Party Barge to pick you up. The Party Barge is a great time — music and a tug back up the river to where you started.

What to Bring

  • Wear anything you are comfortable getting wet — bathing suit or shorts, and water-friendly footwear with a back strap. Water shoes, sport sandals, or old sneakers all work great. Flip flops will fall off in the river — leave them at home. For longer trips bring extra sunscreen and plenty of water.

  • Sunscreen, a water bottle, a dry bag for your phone and valuables, a towel, and a change of clothes. You are welcome to bring your own food and drinks. Cooler tubes are available for Lazy River Tubing for $20. For the 4-mile and 8-mile kayak trips pack a lunch — you will be on the water for several hours.

  • Do not bring anything you cannot afford to lose or get wet. If it goes in the Pacolet River it is most likely gone forever — phones, wallets, jewelry, and electronics.

  • Yes — guests are welcome to bring their own food and beverages to all activities. Alcohol is permitted for guests 21 and older. Please drink responsibly. A local food truck is sometimes on-site during the season — follow us on social media for the current schedule.

  • We highly encourage all guests to unplug and enjoy the river during their visit. There no wifi, but there is decent cell coverage throughout the property.

Safety & the River

  • Yes. The Pacolet River on our stretch near Spartanburg is actively monitored and classified as an active fishery by the SC Department of Environmental Services — bass, sunfish, and catfish thrive in it year round. Our Lazy River Tubing and hourly kayaking routes are flat water with no rapids. The 4-mile kayak trip includes mild Class I rapids through a nature preserve. Adventure Tubing and the 8-mile kayak trip include Class I and II rapids.

  • No swimming ability is required for any of our activities. Life jackets are provided and required for all water activities — no exceptions. There is no lifeguard on duty. Swimming in the Pacolet River is at your own risk. Guests under 16 must wear a life jacket any time they are near the water.

  • Every Vintage View Adventures staff member is trained in Basic Water Safety through the American Red Cross and Paddle Sports Safety through the American Canoe Association — plus in-depth on-site river training right here on the Pacolet River near Spartanburg.

Most of our team also holds current certifications in Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR.

We take the fun seriously. We take the safety even more seriously.

  • That is completely normal and nothing to be concerned about. South Carolina rivers naturally take on a tea-colored or amber hue from tannins — the same organic compounds found in tea and coffee — that leach into the water from leaves and soil upstream.

The color has nothing to do with pollution or water quality. The Pacolet River on our stretch is a state-classified fishery that actively supports bass, sunfish, catfish, and other species. We have been running trips on this river for four summers and we would not put guests on the water if we had any concerns about its safety.

  • We operate rain or shine on the Pacolet River — you are getting wet anyway.

If lightning or thunder occurs during any activity, pull to the riverbank immediately and wait until there has been 20 minutes of no lightning or thunder before continuing. Storms in Upstate SC typically pass quickly.

If we must close due to severe weather or unsafe water levels all guests with reservations will be contacted directly by text first, then phone, then email. We also post updates on all social media immediately. If conditions are unsafe we will never put guests on the water.

Trip protection is available at checkout for full flexibility — we strongly recommend it for outdoor river activities.

  • Our property is beautifully set on a hillside overlooking the Pacolet River. Please be careful while walking — watch for loose gravel, tree roots, and other natural terrain. Stay on designated walking paths and roads at all times.

Our property has trees and shrubs throughout. Even well-maintained trees can drop leaves and branches especially during windy or extreme weather conditions. Vintage View Adventures is not responsible for natural hazards or any property damage or injury that may result from natural conditions.
